Arsenal signs 17-year old Nigerian born winger, Xavier Amaechi on his birthday
Nigeria-born winger Xavier Amaechi celebrated his 17th birthday in the best possible way with a deal that ties him down at the Emirates Stadium.
The youngster who joined the north London club in August 2013, at the age of 12, progressed to become a key figure in the club’s youth setup. Amaechi has scored five goals in four appearances for the Gunners’ U-18 side this campaign.
The contract came as a reward for the left-footed winger who has also featured for the U23 side in Premier League 2 this term. And he is on course to follow in the steps of Nigeria international Alex Iwobi and Chuba Akpom both of whom have progressed to the Gunners’ first-team fold.

Ernest Augustine Effiong known on stage as "Leki" is an Afro Fusion singer originally from Akwa Ibom state in Nigeria west Africa.
The stage name " Leki" birthed out of his then nickname "lektura (lecture) in high school, his friends shortened it in the University to Leki and that's how the name stuck.
Born on the 6th of January 1993, "leki" is the first born of two siblings, with a Christian background.
His love for singing started at a very tender age though his parents were not in support of his choice of dreams and aspirations in life. He was able to make them believe in his potentials.
From 2001 to 2004 he attended Cardinal Ekandem Serminary and St Mary's senior Science college Abak from 2005 to 2008 all in Nigeria. From 2010 to 2013 Ernest was a student of University of Uyo also in Nigeria.
He then moved to Ghana to further his tertiary education at the Sikim Manipal University College in Accra-Ghana, from 2013 to 2016.during his university days he performed on at various events which includes shows organized by the university among others. Leki graduated with bachelor of art in Mass Communication and Journalism.
After school, he went into full time music. He started uploading his tracks online from 2011.
He is fluent in English, Nigerian Pidgin and Efik/Ibibio.
In October 2017, leki was signed unto VNation music for an 8 year duration for Distribution, Production and Marketing of his brand..

N5M Worth Of Goods Destroyed After Manager Went To Watch Football Match In A Beer Parlor. (Photos)
Earlier today, a boat carrying goods worth over 5 million from Cotonou in Benin Republic capsized at the Bonny Jetty in Rivers state. Report has it that the boat arrived Bonny Jetty at about 6pm yesterday, the manager of the Cotonou boat left his duty post to a beer palour to watch football match between Arsenal and Chelsea – leaving the goods inside with no order to unload the boat.

Fisherman Loses Both Legs After Being Attacked By Hippopotamus. (Photos)
A fisherman in Kenya has had both of his legs amputated after being attacked by a hippopotamus that also injured another man. Enock Romano’s legs were amputated under the knees after he suffered deep wounds when his legs were crushed by a hippo in Oserian, Kenya, over the weekend.

He was fishing with a friend on the beach of Lake Naivasha when the hippo attacked both of them.
Naivasha Sub-County Hospital nurse Susan Kamau told The Standard that Romano would receive artificial legs after he has recovered from his injuries.
‘It was impossible to treat them. The victim had to be rushed to theatre as his legs were literally hanging from the skin. They had to be amputated as we did not have any other option,’ she said.

Couple Who Welcomed First Quintuplets In Cross River Celebrate Their Birthday. (Photos)
A Nigerian couple who welcomed quintuplets after 10 years of waiting – celebrated their babies’ birthday as they turned one on Wednesday January 10, 2018 (yesterday). The babies are reported to be the first set of quintuplets in Cross River state. Dr. Ekpo Edet, and his wife welcomed the five babies last year at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), where he works in Cross River state.

The couple had been married for 10 years without a child.
The wife of the state governor, Dr. Linda Ayade, had visited the couple after the delivery, saying that the quintuplets were a blessing to the state and Nigeria at large.
During the visit, Ayade made a donation of N1million to the couple and another N500,000 to the medical experts who made sure the babies were delivered safely.

Soldiers Troop Into Kaduna Ahead Of Protest Over Sacking Of Civil Servants (Photos)
Thousands of security personnel have been deployed across Kaduna state ahead of the protest by the Nigerian Labour Congress over the sacking of 36,000 civil servants. Reports have it that heavily armed security personnel have been stationed at the NLC headquarters along Independence Way and strategic areas of the metropolis while others were patrolling the town.

The police and other security personnel were also stationed along major streets in the city including Kaduna-Kachia road, Kaduna-Zaria highway and Kaduna-Abuja expressway.

Meanwhile, the state government says it has obtained a bench warrant to arrest violent protesters in the state.

The former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu has said the People Democratic Party, PDP, “won’t need much campaign to take back Aso Rock in 2019.” The former governor predicated his claim on the abysmal performance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also noted that Nigerians had realised that the PDP churned out people oriented program, stressing that the former ruling party would not need much campaigning to take back Aso Rock in 2019.

He said that Nigerians had seen the difference and can’t wait till 2019 to liberate themselves from the chains of APC.

“APC government said they are doing N-Power for Nigerian youth but out of several millions of youth who constitute about 60 per cent of the population, only I think about 100,000 are captured by the programme,” he added.

I believe it is a good omen, when a man of God of his age says he is coming to a country. He could have looked in another direction or chosen not to come to us at a time like this. Everybody likes to identify with something that is good; something that is working and we believe that Nigeria is working. Nigeria is in the process of working and so; I believe his coming at this time is a blessing to us. He is taking the challenge to come and pronounce his blessing upon Nigeria. I believe when he comes, he will address the powers and principality of the air. I believe we will begin to see a turnaround, when he speaks as an apostle of Jesus to Nigeria.
What happens is that in the international community, people are beginning to feel concern for a nation that is so highly endowed as ours, which means they recognise the grace, potential and blessings upon this nation that Satan is trying to frustrate by every means. I’m sure its prayer that is holding this nation together. If it were not for the prayer of people God, Nigeria wont be where it is today. So, I believe there is a bright future for Nigeria. There are men of God here, and we are praying every day, which accounts for our relative stability. But I believe when Bishop Chris Bennett comes, many good things will happen, as God hears prayer of the righteous. As he joins forces with us, it gives us the right hand of fellowship, praying and believing that a change will come to Nigeria, because when you see challenges of this magnitude, it cannot but have a spiritual dimension. And that is what he would be addressing and asking that the power of the gospel, which is in the name of Jesus, will break every yoke making things difficulty for us.

During preliminary interrogation the suspect claimed to purchase the weapons for Thirty Thousand Naira (N30,000.00k), from a blacksmith gun fabricator named Dan Asabe Audu, who reside at Angbo Village, Wamba Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Determined to get to the root of the matter, the troops further went to the village where they found out that indeed Dan Asabe Audu has been in the business of illegal arms manufacturing for criminals for quite sometime. They found a complete arms factory with equipment and the products at various stages of production.

Specifically, the troops recovered 3 completely locally fabricated guns, 20 locally fabricated guns at various stages of production, 7 units of 9mm empty cases, one 9mm blank ammunition, 2 drilling machine, 1 power generating set and 3 mobile telephone handsets. The suspects would soon be handed over to the relevant security agency for further investigation and prosecution.

Specifically, the troops recovered 3 completely locally fabricated guns, 20 locally fabricated guns at various stages of production, 7 units of 9mm empty cases, one 9mm blank ammunition, 2 drilling machine, 1 power generating set and 3 mobile telephone handsets. The suspects would soon be handed over to the relevant security agency for further investigation and prosecution.

President Buhari appoints Abubakar as new NIA Director General
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of a substantive Director General for the National Intelligence Agency (NIA). The new Director General is Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, a retired career Foreign Service officer, till his appointment served as Senior Special Assistant to the President (SSAP) on Foreign Affairs/International Relations.

Abubakar had extensive experience working with the United Nations in peace support operations, mediation process, preventive diplomacy and good offices, as well as the promotion of good governance and respect for the rule of law and human rights.
He also briefly served as Senior Adviser at the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), with headquarters in Ndjamena, Chad, before his appointment as SSAP.
Abubakar holds a B.A degree in French Language and Literature, and an M.A degree in Francophone Maghrebian Literature, both from Bayero University, Kano.
He is also fluent in English and Arabic.
The appointment takes immediate effect
